The loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the arrogance of men shall be brought low; and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. The idols shall utterly pass away. Men shall go into the caves of the rocks, and into the holes of the earth, from before the terror of the LORD, and from the glory of his majesty, when he arises to shake the earth mightily.
God’s majesty.
Imagine what colors, what feelings, what brightness, what sounds will come with God’s presence!
On the day He returns, those pointless things that have occupied our hearts will lose their luster. Man-made things, even good things, those we’ve strived for, those we’ve sacrificed time and energy for, will be counterfeit, worth less than nothing beside the brilliance of true Goodness.
One day, God’s physical presence will be on the earth again. In Acts 1, angels tell us that just as He ascended into heaven, one day He will return in the same fashion.
No new technology, no special effects, no Hollywood miracle will compare to what we will experience. It will surpass all that can be imagined.
We don’t want to be taken aback, to be part of the crowd running to hide. God is our shelter, our faithful Father, our just King. We want to be His cheering squad, proud players on His team, His adoring children, happy He has finally come.
Let’s train ourselves to be ready. Let’s sample His presence daily so we are as prepared as we can be when His full glory is revealed. Let’s dive into worship, get lost in a song for Him. Let’s petition Him in prayer and shout His praises. When He does come, we will fall to our knees to worship His majesty which, till then, we can only imagine.
What are some “idols” I currently serve that will “utterly pass away” at Jesus’ return? How can God help me replace them, now, with better things?
Come, Lord Jesus, come. May I never cease to exalt You. I never want to hide from You. You are my all in all. I praise You and pray in Your holy name, Amen.
