Now thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift!
2 Corinthians 9:15
For my thirtieth birthday, my sister sent me a big box full of 30 individually wrapped gifts, all covered in red tissue paper.
That day, I was as giddy as a little girl on Christmas morning. With each gift I unwrapped, the anticipation for the next gift that needed to be unwrapped mounted. With childlike glee, I savored this sweet memory of sisterly love.
At that moment, I felt so loved. Although we were miles apart, her selfless gesture made me feel as if she were right there beside. Gifts have a way of making a person feel warm and fuzzy inside.
In today’s verse, Paul praises God for His “unspeakable gift.” What gift could excite such joy other than salvation through Jesus Christ?
The fact that the God of the universe gave us the Treasure of Heaven, Jesus Christ, should cause our hearts to burst in songs of praise. Jesus is the Best Gift given to humanity. Praise God for lavishing on us with the Gift that overshadows any and every gift: Jesus.
It is with this realization that Paul is left speechless because mere words are unable to explain how wonderful Jesus is. Jesus loves the unloveable and heals the hurting. This amazing gift of salvation through Christ is free to all. All we have to do is accept it from God in faith.
Words cannot express how thankful I am for the wonderful gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
