For by you, I advance through a troop. By my God, I leap over a wall.
In an episode of one of my favorite old sit-coms, one of the characters is talking about running a marathon.
She says she was going and going — she could see the finish line. She could taste the sweet taste of victory. Then she says, “But then it happened — I hit a wall.”
Her daughter, listening to her tell the story says, “You ran out of steam? I’m so sorry. But you did your best and that’s what matters.”
“I didn’t run out of steam. I wasn’t wearing my glasses, so I literally hit a wall,” the mother replies, rubbing her forehead.
Hopefully, you don’t literally run into many walls. But it’s safe to say you’re going to virtually run into the other kind. Money problems, relationship issues, grief, temptations, illness: the list of obstacles goes on.
If you’re facing a wall that appears particularly daunting, try reading Psalm 18 slowly, a bit at a time. Verse by verse, you’ll discover it’s filled with promises to help you surmount any wall you face.
When you let God lead your path, you will always safely find a way over those walls.
What walls have I leaped over with God’s help?
Dear God, Please take control of my life. Please lead me through and over every wall I face, every day of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
