When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”
How would you feel if the CEO of your company suddenly dropped by your workplace? Would you quickly try to clean up your work area? Would you wonder if you were getting fired? Ask for a raise?
Jesus did something similar with Zacchaeus in this story. He knew about the reputation of the chief of tax collectors in Jericho. Zacchaeus was despised even by his fellow tax collectors. Yet Jesus saw beyond the innate greed of sinful human flesh to a soul longing for refreshing.
Jesus saw the beautiful human soul inside of Zacchaeus. Jesus went to his house to save him and his family.
Do you feel that your character might be a little dirty for Jesus? He doesn’t care. He loves you as you are, but wants to help you be better. He wants to transform the house of your heart with His love. Won’t you let Jesus be a houseguest today?
Jesus, please come in and stay in my heart today. Make me better and refresh me with Your Love. In Your Name, I pray, Amen.
