I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.
During the German blitz against London during WWII, one elderly woman remained quite peaceful amidst the chaos.
Someone asked how she was able to maintain such a peaceful attitude about everything.
Her reply, “Every night I pray, but when I begin to worry about what Hitler is doing, I just remember what the preacher said — that Jesus is watching. So then I am able to go to sleep. After all, there is no use for two of us to be up all night.”
When you place your trust in Jesus, it enables Him to solve your personal problems. Remember, He has promised to give you the confidence and peace you need to face them, but you have to allow Him to be there (in your life) for Him to give you those things.
Over and over again in the Bible occur words such as, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you…” (John 14:27)
You can have this peace by focusing your thoughts on Jesus and trusting in Him. Jesus is your best friend. He is always listening and ready to share both your problems and your joys.
What are some things for which I need peace? I will ask God today to give me peace regarding them.
Dear Jesus, Please give me Your peace so I can face anything with the confidence that I am not alone. Help me to focus not on this world’s oppressors, but on the freedom You bring. In Your name I pray, Amen.
