Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word, and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
If you were about to enter a store but someone stopped you in the parking lot and told you not to go in—that the store was being robbed, what would you do? Or when you hear about a recall on an item in your refrigerator, do you throw it out (or take it in for a refund) or do you eat it anyway?
The vast majority of us would leave the parking lot as quickly as possible and we wouldn’t think about risking our health by eating the recalled item. But when it comes to our salvation we’re not nearly as careful or prudent.
Hearing and believing the Word of God, but ignoring its truths is like eating recalled ice cream or peanut butter. You know what you need to do. You even know the consequences of not doing it, yet you ignore those consequences. And in doing so, you are putting your life…your eternal life in jeopardy.
There is nothing here on earth worth risking the address of your eternal home for, so don’t do it. Just don’t.
Father in Heaven, Keep me close. Keep my eyes, ears, and heart open to You. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
