If you love me, keep my commandments.
How many times did your parents tell you to do something, or not let you do something, because (in their words) it was “for your good?”
I remember a few times my parents said those words to me. They weren’t the words I wanted to hear at the time, but, as it turned out, they were right. Hanging out with certain people or going to a particular party or event would have been a bad choice.
When parents say “it’s for your good,” they aren’t trying to spoil your fun, they are trying to protect you. They are keeping you from going in the wrong direction.
As our heavenly Father, God gave us a set of commands to follow to keep us safe and to keep us from going the wrong direction in life. He gave us these commands so we will be able to spend eternity with Him in heaven. He did it for our good, out of the deepest and most sincere love possible.
Today, love Him back through your obedience. Trust God to know what is and isn’t for your good!
Starting today, what changes in my life will I make to become more obedient to God?
Dear God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for wanting me to be safe and happy. Help me obey all things You have commanded me to do. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
