The LORD their God will save them in that day as the flock of his people; for they are like the jewels of a crown, lifted on high over his land.
If your house caught on fire, what treasured things would you want to take with you?
You may be one of the many people whose homes were destroyed by ravaging wildfires, volcanic eruptions, or the floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes that strike on a regular basis. If so, you’ve not only asked yourself that question…you’ve had to answer it.
God had to answer that question, too. He answered it when Eve sinned, forever changing the landscape of humanity. He answered it again after Noah’s sons sinned, reigniting the sinful nature in us all. God had to ask Himself, “What will I take with Me when a fire destroys the beautiful earth I created?”
His answer was this: “I will take My precious jewels”– meaning every person who identifies ourselves as being His. When we accept Christ as our Savior, we go from being one of God’s unconditionally loved creations to being one of His unconditionally loved children…priceless and treasured jewels.
As humans, we can only carry so much. We can’t feasibly save everything we might want to take with us in case of a fire or other disaster. But the capacity of God’s arms is measureless. He wants to save us all.
All we must do is accept the gift of His salvation.
Thank You for wanting to take me with You for all eternity.
Help me live my life with a thankful heart, showing my gratitude by the way I live.
In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
