Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him: my Savior, my helper, and my God.
Jessica, a loving wife, mother of two teenage boys, precious daughter, sister, and friend suddenly died the day after Mother’s Day in 2018.
The previous Friday, she was her energetic and bubbly self, spending most of the day preparing for the mother-daughter banquet that would be held later that evening.
But midway through the meal, she started feeling “funny.” She couldn’t think straight. She was having trouble getting her words to come out right.
An hour later, the medivac helicopter landed on the road her sister-in-law was traveling on trying to get Jess to the hospital. She was unconscious by this time and never again opened her eyes.
At Jess’s passing, family and friends too numerous to count grieved in deep despair. Yet their faith, like hers, remains strong.
We don’t know why Jess’s life was cut short, but we are confident we will meet again in heaven. Meanwhile, we trust in God and put our hope in Him, praying that we will receive the strength, courage, and wisdom we need to make it through anything till we see Jesus.
In what or in whom do I put my faith?
Dear God, Sometimes, though I do not understand why a good and faithful child of You has to suffer or die, still I want to be fully committed to putting my hope in You and a strong support system of brothers and sisters in Christ. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
