How Can I Get Energized?

by Pastor Ken

1 Samuel 16:7

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for I don’t see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

David’s name can be found more than 1,000 times in the Bible.

He was a shepherd. Then he became a soldier, warrior, musician, poet, composer, author, king, and empire builder. David took a weak, struggling nation and made it powerful. Under his kingship, the borders expanded, taxes were reduced, and prosperity flourished.

David’s psalms show his intense devotion to God. At times he soars into the heights of ecstasy. At others, he is in the dungeon of despair.

David’s life illustrates several spiritual truths:

  • He is thoroughly honest. He is not hypocritical. He is open to expressing his doubts, emotions, and faults.

  • He has a heart for God. In various situations throughout his life, he longs to please God.

  • David believes God is always there. He constantly has a sense of God’s presence. That was the source of his extraordinary energetic life.

God invites us to express our emotions honestly to Him. He encourages us to bare our souls to Him, seeking to know Him. We can never surprise Him. He urges us to believe He is always there — for He is!

He provides us with continual energy and enables us to live wonderfully powerful lives.

Reflection

How can I develop the habit of honestly revealing my emotions and feelings to God as David did?

Prayer

Dear God, In the conflicting emotions inside me and the changing situations around me, You are a constant unmoving Rock. Help me to always count on You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
