Walking the Walk!

by David Haase

Luke 11:28

But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.”

I recently studied Matthew 5, which begins with Christ’s sermon on the mount.

Jesus started with the Beatitudes, “Blessed are the….” He then went on preaching on anger (Matthew 5:21-26).

Jesus used anger to illustrate the command of “Do not kill.”

Anger can so upset us that we hurt one another. Domestic violence is an example of how we can become so angry we lash out and hurt those we love. Jesus sternly warned us to control our anger.

I have been married for nearly four decades. I learned long ago to give my wife space when I knew she was angry or upset with me. This gives us both time to collect our thoughts and enables us to talk the issue through to a sensible solution. In the process, hard feelings and anger are short-lived.

Anger is just one example of many possible issues that can cause us to hurt one another.

Luke 11:28 tells us to obey to God’s Word and we will be blessed. My wife and I are both blessed when we study the Word, take it to heart, and apply it in our lives.

We must study God’s Word in order to be obedient. Taking a short time in our lives to worship together, listening and learning, can give us a much happier and blessed life. That’s a promise from Jesus Himself!

Reflection

How have I enjoyed the blessings that come from hearing and keeping God’s word?

Prayer

Gracious God, Thank You for Your words of wisdom that help us make good decisions. Help me to keep my anger under control. May I always “walk the walk” with You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!
