Starting something new is never easy, especially after losing someone you love.

In 1 Kings 3, Solomon has recently lost his father, King David.

David was a renowned leader, musician, soldier, and man of God. How would Solomon fill those shoes?

David was Israel’s beloved ruler. In order to become King David’s successor, there was a family rift between Solomon and Adonijah, a scorned brother who felt he was a better choice for the throne.

Solomon had a whole nation depending on him and he didn’t know what to do. At a crossroads in life, as vulnerable as a child, Solomon cried out to God.

He humbled himself before God and poured out his heart. In prayer, he put away any false pretense and pretext that stood in his way, because he knew that he was a “child.” He was not qualified for the call on his life. He didn’t have sufficient experience. He was the new kid on the block but he knew the power of prayer and he knew that in God’s kingdom, the most powerful human is as humble as a little child.

Like Solomon, we often find ourselves in situations that exceed our qualifications and experiences. It’s in those moments that we must come before God as children and let Him lead the way.
