In my family of four kids, car rides were often loud and the source of lots of fights between us siblings.

The fights ranged from seat placement, to air temperature and speed. However, one fight that constantly occurred, especially on longer rides was “you’re touching me!”

We were tired of each other and adamant that everyone was to stay out of “our space.” Our favorite way of dealing with this was to tell the sibling guilty of crossing the seat lines that there was now a wall between us which they could not cross.

As kids, we put up all kinds of invisible barriers, convinced that others should and will respect them. Our spiritual lives also feature invisible barriers that are very important. God is constantly fighting for us in the spiritual realm, in battles we can’t even see.

One battle we all fight is the battle against sin and the schemes of the devil. We can be encouraged that God is fighting for and with us, though. In 1 John 5:18, we are told that when we accept Jesus, being born of God, the evil one doesn’t touch us. Christ overcame sin for us, and in Him God will help us be on guard to resist the devil.
