“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
These words of Jesus from His “Sermon on the Mount,” as recorded in Matthew 5, remind us that God Himself takes our sorrows very seriously. He knows that since we live in a sin-soaked world, there will be many times during our lives when we need comforting. He not only commits to comforting His people (Isaiah 40:1), but He also promises to gift us with a peace that lasts for eternity.
Comfort comes from God
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Even when suffering, I find comfort in Christ
For as the sufferings of Christ abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Christ. Our hope for you is steadfast, knowing that, since you are partakers of the sufferings, so also are you of the comfort.
Trading peace for anxiety
In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
I have no reason for fear when God is with me
Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
God’s law and God’s Word comfort me
Please let your loving kindness be for my comfort, according to your word to your servant. Let your tender mercies come to me, that I may live; for your law is my delight.
God will not abandon me
“The LORD himself is who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be discouraged.”
God’s peace is stronger than the world’s misery
I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.
God’s Word encourages me
For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that through perseverance and through encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
I choose not to be afraid
Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
With God leading, death does not frighten me
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
God fills me with hope and power
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope in the power of the Holy Spirit.
God’s comfort blesses me when I’m sad
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
The Lord comforts His people
Sing, heavens, and be joyful, earth! Break out into singing, mountains, for the LORD has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his afflicted.
