In March 2020, at a time when bad news was literally a global epidemic, Some Good News (SGN) launched into the darkness.

Actor and director John Krasinski lit up his end of the internet with goodness. Quarantined in his home, waiting for the COVID-19 pandemic to pass, he pulled together news that highlighted thankfulness, kindness, and goodness.

Krasinski may not know it, but his SGN series is right in line with Paul’s encouragement to the early church.

In 1 Thessalonians, Paul says, “Give thanks in everything.”

That means when the world seems to be crashing down, look for God’s hand of goodness close by… and thank Him for it.

Schools closed, businesses locked their doors, and employees were sent home. Sales dropped in most industries. Incomes fell. Grocery shelves went bare. But the words of the Bible didn’t change.

“Look carefully! Give thanks,” Paul encouraged.

He was right.

In the United States, for the first time in 18 years, no children were buried from school shootings. Car accidents were cut in half. All over the planet, smoggy skies and murky waters cleared. The world joined together to sew masks, send medical supplies, and help one another like never before.

Even in darkness, we can always be thankful for light.
