When I was growing up, we used to say, “I got your back!” to describe our loyalty to a person.

The saying meant that the person would be there to help, defend, and look out for you in any way you needed it. To this day, I still use the phrase to show a loved one my desire to support them in any way needed.

When David says, “You hem me in behind and before. You laid your hand on me,” it’s his way of saying that God had his back.

David knew what it felt like to be surrounded by friends and to be left alone. Through it all, the only constant was God’s presence and lovingkindness. David realized that God was always present, surrounding him.

God surrounds you and me too.

We live in a world plagued by loneliness. Soon after becoming a mother, I found myself battling feelings of loneliness. These feelings crippled me for years until I reached out to God in faith. I began to seek Him through His Word and prayer. Now I have a feeling of inner peace and assurance that God was saying all along, “I got your back!” He has yours, too.
