Comfort for Those Who Have Lost Loved Ones

Humanity was never supposed to experience the pain of losing a loved one. We were created perfect, in God’s image (Genesis 1:27). But when sin entered the world, death accompanied it. We have lived in death’s shadow ever since.
God knows how we feel. Our pain is His pain. Because of our transgressions, God’s Son, Jesus, died a horrific death. When He rose from the grave, He paved the way for us to rise with Him someday. What a comfort this is when we remember those we have lost!
When I am at my lowest, God is near me; He saves me
Psalm 34:18
The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.
God promises to heal my broken heart
Psalm 147:3
He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
God is the source of all comfort; my comfort comes through Christ
2 Corinthians 1:3-5
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Christ.
I grieve for those I have lost, but praise God, I have hope to see them again
1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
But we don’t want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you don’t grieve like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.
Jesus is the resurrection and the life; believing in Him gives me eternity
John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
