While He was on this earth, Jesus prayed often, staying in constant contact with His heavenly Father. He prayed for strength, for power, for guidance — both for Himself and for His friends. He is our Savior; our Redeemer; our Example.
The Lord’s Prayer
Matthew 6:9-13
Pray like this: “Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.”
Jesus praises God’s ineffable ways
Matthew 11:25-26
At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.”
Jesus’ prayer for Lazarus’ resurrection
John 11:41-43
So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, “Father, I thank you that you listened to me. I know that you always listen to me, but because of the multitude standing around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me.” When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”
