“For everything there is a season, and a time to every season under heaven,” King Solomon declared before listing a lengthy inventory of things that happen in a person’s life (Ecclesiastes 3). From “a time to be born and a time to die” (verse 2) and everything that happens in between, we live our lives trying to find the balance between work, relationships, self-care, and spirituality. Praise God, His Word offers the guidance we seek and the balance we crave.
Jesus is the ultimate authority in everything I do
Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him.
Living an unbalanced life is vanity; God is the source of my success
Unless the LORD builds the house, they who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil, for he gives sleep to his loved ones.
I pray that those near and dear to me find balance in their lives
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.
God will give me the strength to do what must be done
Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
Jesus grew intellectually, physically, spiritually, and socially; He is my example
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
Putting God first brings balance to the rest of my life
“Seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.”
There is a balance between my cheerful generosity and God’s blessing of my work
You shall surely give, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him, because it is for this thing the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you put your hand to.
God’s spirit gives me emotional balance
For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
God promises to teach me how to best use my time and resources
Does he who plows to sow plow continually? Does he keep turning the soil and breaking the clods? When he has leveled its surface, doesn’t he plant the dill, and scatter the cumin seed, and put in the wheat in rows, the barley in the appointed place, and the spelt in its place? For his God instructs him in right judgment and teaches him.
Jesus provides the balance in my life
You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
God’s expectations of me are clear; everything else is extra
He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
I have a responsibility to deliberately cultivate my thoughts and actions
Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report: if there is any virtue and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
