Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout, daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King comes to you! He is righteous, and having salvation; lowly, and riding on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Imagine you are with a crowd in Jerusalem watching a parade.
Jesus is coming toward you riding on a donkey, as newly crowned kings have always done. He is the long-awaited Messiah; the perfect King.
Somebody yells, “Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion!”
Another person responds, “Shout, daughter of Jerusalem!”
Then a group of people shouts. “Behold, your King comes to you!”
It is almost like an orchestra, all the people singing together. Everyone knows the song.
“He is righteous, and having salvation; lowly, and riding on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
People in Jerusalem probably recited this promise from Zechariah 9:9 many times. When they saw Jesus on the donkey, they could not stop shouting with joy.
Jesus is our Messiah. If we let Him, He will sit on the thrones of our hearts.
Then we will experience Jesus’ perfect salvation. With deep, heartfelt appreciation, we will praise Him for saving us from eternal death, abundantly blessing us now and for eternity.
Our deepest appreciation for His death on the cross, for our salvation, makes our whole being shine with Christ’ eternal light of life.
Dear Messiah, Jesus Christ,
Help me to enjoy Your wonderful salvation.
Hear me as I shout joyful praise to You.
In Your Name, I pray, Amen.
