Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings, and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator. Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him.
Colossians 3:9-10, 17
This is the first day of a brand-new year. So today is the perfect day to remind you that you become a completely new being when you give your life to Christ. It is your brand-new beginning.
When you give your life to Christ you can be all He wants you to be. You can do all He wants you to do. You can receive all He wants you to receive and you will have the hope of eternal salvation.
A Harvard study shows that we are more apt to fulfill our goals and dreams and experience a greater sense of success and accomplishment when we write them down. Now while I’m sure that is true, I also know without a doubt that when we make our desires known to God and give our lives to Him we are more successful and accomplished than even we can imagine.
So, beginning today—the first day of the new year—write down what you want to accomplish. But don’t stop there. Talk to Jesus about your goals. Tell Him what you want to do and ask Him for wisdom and guidance to get there. Or someplace even better that He has planned for you.
And finally, trust Jesus to sustain you on your goal-meeting journey. Believe the words of Philippians 4:13 that says, “I can do everything through him [Christ] who gives me strength” (NIV). “Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through Him” (2 Colossians 3:17).
Prayer: Lord, help me as new person, to accomplish all my goals and dreams for this year for Your glory. In the name of Jesus who makes everything new and who is the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:5-6), amen.
