Don’t be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes: for the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken.
Today’s verse tells us something we generally don’t like to think about.
It tells us we are going to be afraid, that wicked people and situations are going to try to lure us away from God, and that Satan has no intentions of giving up trying to steal our soul away from God. Talk about depressing and ominous!
It would be, anyway, if not for the rest of the verse. In addition to telling us about all the bad things going on around us, we are told to NOT be afraid because the LORD will keep us safe. He won’t let those things suck us under like an undercurrent in the river.
In order to be able to claim that confidence and not be sucked under, we have to be holding on TIGHTLY to God’s Word and promises. Just as a life jacket has to be worn to save a person from drowning, we have to believe, trust, and obey God for Him to be able to save us.
I believe, but help me trust You fully – to never let go of You.
Keep me safe from Satan and all he tries to tempt me with.
In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
