Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
Right now I’m thinking about two different people. Both are solid in their faith and have a genuine love for the LORD. But one is definitely gentler than the other. One of these women could come to your door with a freshly baked lasagna and tossed salad for your dinner ‘just because’, yet you would still feel like you had just had a conversation with a drill sergeant from the Marine Corps by the time she left. Her motives are pure, but her tone and presentation come off as bossy and even rude, sometimes.
The other woman I’m thinking of, however, could tell you that your kids are unruly and that your reason for skipping out on Sunday school is not a reason, but an excuse. You would still walk away from the conversation with a smile on your face and in your heart for having talked with her. She’s just that gentle.
So what’s the difference? Both women truly love the LORD and have a heart for serving God and others. The difference is that one of the women makes a conscious effort to let her words and actions be filtered through the Holy Spirit. In doing so, people are drawn to her. Her gentleness allows her to show Jesus to a lot of people. The other one doesn’t always do that. She means to, but she doesn’t.
Which one will you be?
Father God, help me filter all I say and do through Your Spirit that lives in me. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
