Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
How many times have you answered the phone to hear something like, “We want to give you a free weekend vacation at a luxury resort.” They want you to believe that’s all there is to it—no strings attached. But we all know that’s not true. There are always strings attached to these offers. There’s nothing free these days, is there? Not even salvation.
What? Isn’t salvation free? Doesn’t the Bible talk about salvation being a gift? And aren’t gifts free?
Yes, it is a gift and yes, gifts are free. But gifts also come with responsibilities. For example, you wouldn’t work in the garden wearing the expensive shoes your husband got you for your birthday. You also don’t let your kids leave the bike Santa brought in the driveway.
These things are nothing compared to the gift Jesus offers us, so don’t you think we should take the responsibility of such a gift seriously?
The responsibility of accepting this gift is to believe. Believe Jesus is who He says He is, therefore making every word of the Bible relevant and necessary for YOUR LIFE. To believe in Jesus is to trust…listen to…obey…and know that His way is the only way that leads to Heaven.
Father in Heaven, thank You for the gift of Jesus. Help me live my life treating this gift responsibly and with thanksgiving. In the Name of Jesus the Gift-Giver, I pray, Amen.
