But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you don’t know about.” The disciples therefore said one to another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.”
Because I am an author and ghostwriter, I spend hours every day doing what I’m doing right now—writing. For the most part, I enjoy what I do, but I have to admit there are times when I get tired of it. There are days I would rather do just about anything but write. There are days when I can’t seem to stay focused and my thoughts just don’t come together with the way they should.
When this happens I feel guilty because with few exceptions everything I write centers around God. Church curriculum, Bible studies, devotional books…even the projects I do for other people are Christian-based, because I am committed to working for the LORD. I am committed to using the abilities He gave me for His glory. In those times God reminds me that He is there to encourage me, to give me strength, and to put the right words in my mind so that I can transfer them to the ‘page.’ But He is also there telling me to rest; that His will is for me to take time to rest and be still so that I can feel His love—not just write about it.
So whatever job you set out to do, make sure you do it in such a way that others will see Jesus in you. But don’t forget to also take the time to rest in God’s loving arms and listen to His voice of instruction.
God, I ask You right now to give me guidance and strength to do the work You want me to do. Help me always be willing to work for You. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
